The Goldfish Council’s 4th Annual, 2024 Grow Out Competition “Bristol Shubunkin – 3 pack”

The Goldfish Council is prepping for an awesome event.  This is a fun grow out competition for hobbyist to try their hand at grooming and digital showing.Gary Hater, Bao Dang, Will Wen, Greg Rau and Tri Tran have selected an outstanding group of Bristol Shubunkins for this grow out project. Breeder, Gary Hater raised four spawns and several members of the committee have culled several thousand fry to produce this contest. We will be awarding for the Best Growth & Best fish.  Each entry fish is donated by Gary Hater.  You can order and compete with three entries for $50. So, let’s be clear, three Bristol Shubunkins and $50 for shipping and handling. The team will select pack and mail the fish on April 1 and 2, 2024 via priority mail. Delivery should be 2-3 days. Live arrival Guaranteed. All proceeds go to The Goldfish Council, as the fish are being donated.

Top prize (best overall growth) is 2kg (4.4 pounds) North Fin 1mm pellets

We are pleased to announce that North Fin, the event sponsor, is supplying the prizes and each contestant will receive 100g sample with their fish!

1.    Purchase your fish directly from The Goldfish Council website using the event page. WWW.thegoldfishcouncil.com . The purchase of the ticket for the event is purchase of your fish that will be shipped to you.

2.    You can purchase one box of three fish only. The fish are on a first come first serve basis, once they sell out of fish from this shipment we will no longer accept any more entries. We are limiting this contest to 50 players/growers.

3.    Registration must be received and fish ordered by March 25, 2024 by Midnight Eastern Standard Time.

4.    This Competition is only open to Residents in the Continental United States, only one entry of 3 fish per person(maximum 2 sets of 3 per family).

5.    Your fish will be from Gary Hater’s fish room. The fish will be between ¾’ and 11/2” total length.

6.    Any questions regarding the registration, photo submissions, awards, Facebook live feeds should all be directed to Gary Hater, Founder via Facebook Messenger.

7.   Photos of the purchased fish must be emailed to thegoldfishcouncilevents@gmail.com no later than April 15,2024. Please include 2 side view photos (one of each side of the fish) with a measuring devise and one beauty shot.  So, three entries, 9 pictures in all, 3 per fish.

8.    Then, by October 13th, 2024, you must submit updated grow out photos of the same 3 fish (or less),to Thegoldfishcouncilevents@gmail.com . Please include 2 side view photos (one of each side of the fish) with a measuring devise and one beauty shot.

 9.  Awards will be announced Via Facebook Live in the Goldfish Council Chat, mid-October 2024.  Exact date and time for the results will be announced about 2 weeks prior to the date. The TGC chairman of Judges, Joshua McWilliams will be the judge. 

10. Awards will be Given out for the following:a.      Best Overall Growth - biggest growth (4.5 pounds North Fin 1mm pellets)b.     Best Overall Fish - Compared to TGC Standards (2.2 pounds North Fin pellets)

 11. Tri Tran is going to manage an Instant Message group chat throughout the contest, reach out to him to be added.This action allows for help and new friends.

Below is an illustration by Merlin Cunliffe©1990 of the classic Bristol Shubunkin. Fish provided will be still be coloring. Typically, we expect them to have black on their tail, some black speckling, and be a mixture of blue, red, and white. Eye types will vary (normal, wild type, or one of each). Tails will be heart or B shaped. Given enough room and great husbandry we expect the fish to be 3-5” at the end of the contest.
