Jeff Thompson is a professional artist living in Bend, Oregon who has been keeping Japanese ranchu since 2006. With a focus on using traditional Japanese methods for keeping ranchu he strives to discover the artistic and sculptural elements of this creature. “Beautiful, graceful and amazing: I find all these qualities and more in ranchu, a living art form,” says Jeff. In a busy world Jeff finds ranchu asking him to slow down and pay attention to the details. He enjoys those quite moments watching the ranchu swim their lazy paths. The yearly pattern of spring spawns, summer growth, fall cool down and winter sleep create a strong connection to nature and the seasons. Successful ranchu keeping and breeding is a long journey that requires devotion. With many years studying and practicing he now finds new levels of complexity being revealed by the ranchu. Source
