Lisa Olson

Regional Director

Lisa Olson’s passion in life (other than her long suffering husband …of course) has been all

creatures great & small from there very beginning. As a youngster she spent hours at a time

observing insects, furred, feathered & scaled creatures in the garden. When other kids played

“house” she opted to be the household pet or sidled off to take earth worms for a stroll in her

doll pram (in lieu of dolls..the worms were more interesting:)

Over the span of 50+yrs (equal parts spent living in Canada, the US & UK), she’s shared her

home with a variety of creatures either as pets, show prospects or short term rehab subjects (all

manner of rodents, hedgehogs, raccoons, squirrels, cats, dogs, horses, newts, chameleons &

FISH of course)!

Her very first “pet” was a bright orange goldfish she ever so creatively (or not) named …Goldie!

The thrill of his cheerful, vibrant colour & the sense of joy she found in observing him go about

his fishy business, stayed with her over the decades. In more recent years she’s revisited her

interest in goldfish. Infected by the enthusiasm of acquaintances made along the way, she’s

advanced to more exotic/fancy varieties. She mainly keeps & (mostly accidentally) breeds Thai

orandas, however, as with most GF enthusiasts, there are always a few other varieties

swimming around to keep things interesting.

Lisa currently lives in Canada with 3 dogs, 2 cats, an entirely unreasonable number of fish & her

favourite guy (the aforementioned husband:). She works far too much & in her free time enjoys

baking, gardening & learning the tips & tricks of successful fish husbandry & genetics from her

friends & mentors in the hobby.

As of the writing of this bio her husband forbids her to have anymore tanks/ponds or water

receptacles of any sort that might be used for housing more fish….we’ll let you know how that

goes…
