Got a Goldfish Story? Let’s Get It Published!

2 min read

You don’t need to be a professional writer to contribute to The Goldfish Council website. Have a breeding success, a fish room tour, a show recap, or a lesson learned the hard way? We’d love to help you share it. Your experience could be just what another hobbyist needs—and yes, we welcome the fish tales, too!

To keep the stories flowing and our volunteers swimming happily, please follow these submission instructions. They apply to articles, blogs, events, new vendor listings, and other website upload requests you need our team to publish.

Send Everything to One Place

Email your completed submission to thegoldfishcouncilwebsite@gmail.com.

Please send a complete package containing:

- Your written content: Attach a Word document or paste the text directly into the email.

- Your images: Attach each image as a separate file. Do not embed images in the Word document, as they do not transfer to our website.

- Image placement instructions: Name your images clearly and put matching labels in your text, such as [Insert Photo 1 here]. Include captions and photo credits in the body of the text where you want each photo placed.

- Publication details: Include the title, author’s name, and desired publication date. For events or vendor listings, include the relevant dates, locations, links, and contact information.

A quick check before you hit “send” saves everyone a second lap around the tank!

Need a Little Help Getting Started?

Have a great idea but need help developing it into an article? Contact Gary Hater at garyhatergoldfish@gmail.com for writing and development assistance before submitting your finished materials to the website team.

Please allow time for that collaboration, followed by the publication timeline below.

Give Our Volunteers Time to Work

- Completed, proofread submissions: Send all materials at least three weeks before your desired publication date.

- Planning ahead? You can submit materials up to one year in advance. We can schedule content to go live later.

Requested publication dates depend on receiving complete materials within these timelines.

Please Submit It Ready for Review

Our editor, Joshua McWilliams, and the website committee are volunteers. Gary can help you develop your draft; Joshua and the website team handle preparing completed submissions for publication. Contributors are responsible for gathering and sending all required materials.

Incomplete submissions will be placed on hold until the missing items are provided. Joshua will not chase down attachments, reconstruct image placement, or manage repeated back-and-forth to collect the basics. Please use the checklist above before submitting. The three-week publication timeline begins once the complete package is received.

These guidelines help our committee collaborate remotely and spend more time sharing your stories with the goldfish community.

Your Experience Is Worth Sharing

You don’t need a trophy shelf or decades in the hobby to have something valuable to contribute. A clever setup, a memorable show, or an honest account of what worked—and what didn’t—can spark someone else’s next great idea.

Have a story swimming around in your head? Put it into words, gather your photos, and send it our way!
